I think there's definitely something that can be done along these lines, but there are possible snags, too. I'm not physicist enough to come up with workarounds, but so far I've seen enough possible concepts for nuclear power (including this one) that one or more of them could definitely become a big part of our energy solution.
It's a matter of political and social will, now.
