Social Statistics from dating site data

Found while surfing: http://blog.okcupid.com/

The data collected from dating sites has to be a sociologists fantasy land: hundreds of thousands of people filling out profiles, contacting one another, leaving a data trail of untold proportions, all of it available for statistical manipulation. Scary and fascinating at the same time.

Well, there's a blog that uses the data from a dating site, crunches it, and spits out all kinds of interesting observations along with entertaining commentary. Be sure to click the "previous posts" tab at the bottom, as the archive contains many interesting articles.

(Being Quite Happily Married, I don't use such sites. Fact is, I try to limit the amount of personal data I feed into the machine. But like the tip of the iceberg, this is what is being done with the data we provide with every click of the mouse.)
