There's a lot of history in that ship, and leaving it in the dark to rot out of some sort of "respect" for those who died on it seems a bit counterproductive.
I think they've done a fairly reasonable job so far of balancing people's desire to know more about the ship and its passengers with a need to protect the site from abuse.
