I'm really proud of everyone who participated in the technical aspects of this rescue. Applied science at its best. Drilling a bore that wide in that amount of time is a big accomplishment.
I was on a tour of a mine in Canada, 6000 feet down, and when it came time to go back to the surface, we were told we'd have to go up the emergency lift, which was just a wedge shaped cage that was on the side of the main shaft lift. Six of us squeezed into a space that left us pressed together, barely enough to breathe. For twenty minutes I waited to breathe fresh air again.
After all these weeks, fresh air is going to be just one of the delights of these brave miners.
Here comes the first one, let's hope all the trips go well!
