A very good place to start
The words are used more as tools to get something for nothing than as rigid definitions. "Need" and "deserve" are a lot more useful when trying to get things than simply "want." Heck, we learn this as children wheedling our parents.
A word that hasn't been in vogue for a while is "earned."
