There are a lot of leftists that are angry that Obama didn't take us full socialist with the power the Democrats had over the past two years. These people will go to their graves believing that if we had just gone whole hog with government control of everything, we would all be living in paradise now.

There has been an evolutionary process on the Left over the past two generations as the wages of collectivism have become obvious in nation after nation. Some left the movement. Some left politics altogether. Some became conservative.

Today, the only committed socialists left are those who have managed to wall off the real world enough to maintain their internal worldview against all comers. The ones I see on the corner protests here are mostly in their 70s. The young ones don't know any better yet, although they will begin to learn if they become productive citizens. Many socialists are kept on protected preserves in academia, shielded from the outside world like deep sea fish in a pressurized seaquarium.
