100 x 100 is the pixel count, vertical and horizontal (or maybe the other way around). It's common to have a limit like that for things like forum avatars, icons, or "thumbnail" photos. Some sites are sophisticated enough to "cook" the picture you send to the right size for you, but they're rare.
