Philosophies can be changed. It's how civilization progresses, and one of the many things I learned in my studies over the years is that data and philosophy should not be kept in separate categories.
A philosophy cut off from data is a religion. Nothing at all wrong with that on an individual basis, but it needs to be kept in mind when organizing how an entire society works.
