Competition works. What our education system needs is many different ideas and methods, all competing for students in a free market. This concept is not compatible with a socialized educational system run by socialist education bureaucrats, and so you're not going to see a lot of improvement.
More and more parents are working hard to find ways to route around the public education system, which is working equally hard to make those alternatives impossible.
