Re: Insufficient data and an edit.

That's an easy question to answer. We ALL do that. We all tend to remember facts that support what we want to believe, and tend to forget those that contradict our beliefs. And what is thinking but just asking ourselves questions and then trying to remember those facts we need to answer them?

We normally don't have any trouble noticing others fooling themselves this way, but we rarely admit to ourselves that we do it. Even when we catch ourselves, we tend to mentally sweep it under the rug. After all, just because others make mistakes doesn't mean we do. We are exceptional. We are better than all that.

We all have a tendency to see and believe evidence that supports what we want to believe, or what is to our benefit, and to discount those things that contradict our prejudices or lead to unpleasant conclusions. It is the major software bug in our programming and we all suffer from it.

Except me, of course.
