Here (emphasis mine):
^About the shape of a poker card but thinner, the device is fashioned from silicon, electronics and catalysts, substances that accelerate chemical reactions that otherwise would not occur, or would run slowly. Placed in a single gallon of water in a bright sunlight, the device could produce enough electricity to supply a house in a developing country with electricity for a day, Nocera said.^
A poker card is a damn small solar panel. Although a developing country house doesn't use a lot of juice, if this story is accurate, this level of performance is spectacular. A panel eight feet on a side could supply a village of 1,000 such houses.
Just on the basis of these articles, this is a game-changer at almost any price of production, and God knows we could use a game-changer right now. I'm writing Nocera an e-mail for some clarifications.
