Kommunity Kollege turned out to be a bit more than I expected. It wasn't just a chamber of commerce peptalk, or a thinly disguised campaign commercial. The presentation was first rate, slickly produced, but highly intelligent, and delivered by the bureaucrats and managers that actually do the work and run the city. And it was designed to actually transmit information about a complex subject in a way people could use it.
I was impressed, not just by the class, but by the city operation covered (the topic tonight was Finance, not the most exciting material in the world, especially for someone like myself with no prior knowledge whatsoever about it). I think the people who run this town actually know what they are doing. I learned a lot, more than I picked up in 20 years of working for county government (at least about Finance), and I even got homework. The class was 2 hours, and there are 8 more sessions.
Like I said, I was impressed. By the time this is over, I will have been exposed to the equivalent of a good university entry level course in public administration.
