The military and entitlements are a huge chunk of the budget.
From Obama's last budget document, Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, and Defense account for about 60 percent of the total, roughly 20 percent each.
No serious budget proposal can avoid any of these segments. Democrats want to pretend they can leave entitlements untouched, and Republicans want Defense left alone.
