Re: The military and entitlements are a huge chunk of the budget.

Yeah, but the vast bulk of the entitlements are spent right here in the USA, where they go right back into into the economy to buy goods and services to make jobs.

But a large piece of the military budget is spent overseas maintaining bases whose primary military purpose is pumping money into European and Asian economies, and relieving them of spending for their own defense. Much of the rest goes up in smoke and wear and tear and training (not even mentioning everything consumed or wasted in battle). I'm not saying these latter expendables aren't necessary for military readiness, just that nothing productive is injected into the economy as a result. A gallon of fuel can carry useful business cargo for miles on the interstate, or propel a jet on a training mission.

I'm willing to take a hit in my entitlements for the good of the country, but it should not be 50-50 with defense. Every penny I get from my pensions is spent right here in this country. None of it is rusting in the desert, or subsidizing a barracks commissary at an air base in Germany.

I hope that heretofore unmentioned weighting coefficient gets factored into the calculations.
