There's some contributory negligence.
From the looks of it that area would have gone up anyway. Lightning, cigarette, campfire, something would have set it off, and later in the year it might have been drier.
One aerial view showed a structure surrounded by forest, which must have had a lot of fuel on the ground, too. There is just a driveway providing what might have been 10 degrees of open area, 350 degrees of forest.
The people living there had to know they were going to be moving sooner or later.
