Interracial marriage changes things

My wife is Asian, as are my stepsons and daughter-in-law. A high percentage of our friends are Asian (more than Caucasian, actually), with Hispanics and blacks in the mix as well. We don't "celebrate diversity", we live it.

We get together several times each year with our friends. It's fun to hear the mix of languages and dialects. It has been my experience that when Filipino women get loud and are laughing a lot, they're telling dirty stories and having a lot of fun. Their husbands know to steer clear of the room when that's going on.

A high percentage of our friends are in interracial marriages, especially white-Asian marriages. That's just the way it works out. Interracial marriages are common here in Colorado Springs, probably because we're a military town and that sort of thing is widely accepted in the military. Few people give it any thought, unlike what happens in many parts of the country.

As more kids are born in interracial families, perhaps the absurdity of race will become a thing of the past. High profile people like Tiger Woods are also doing their part to change racial perceptions, IMO. He's half Asian, 1/4th black, and 1/4th white (or something like that). Some blacks are trying to get him to declare his "blackness" but doing so would be turning his back on his mother's heritage. Instead, he calls himself "Cablinasian" to illustrate the fact that he's multiracial. I think that's great but those who get their political power from playing the races against one another (both the poverty pimps on one side and the hard core bigots on the other) don't like the idea one bit. Screw them.
