Please excuse my burst of common sense, but why do you insist its the military. There are plenty of privately owned helicopters. My guess would be the talented folks who did this could have benefitted with a set of eyes above the ground. Also assuming military is normally the only folks flying at that time of morning, doesn't mean it had to be them on this particular morning. After-all it isn't every morning that art is formed out of this particular wheatfield either.
