It's possible that the fuel consumption will be so low with a one-seat car that using a more expensive diesel engine the savings in fuel wouldn't justify the cost of the engine. It's possible. For example if it burns 30% less fuel, that might only amount to a fraction of a liter, hardly enough to justify a few hundred dollars more for a diesel engine.
