I've been married to a Filipina for over 19 years. Over the years, I've heard some American women stereotype Asian women as being some demure "China Doll" who wait on their husbands hand and foot. Funny, out of the hundreds of Asian women that I've met through friendships and immigrant associations, not one even came close to that stereotype - especially the Filipinas. They're a hard working, fun-loving bunch who don't take crap off of anyone, especially their husbands. Sometimes, I think they’re more jalapeno than Filipino. One thing is for certain, they're not dull.

One of our marriage's inside jokes is when my wife says something like, "Well, I used to do that sort of thing for you BUT NOW THAT I'M AN AMERICAN WOMAN..." You can fill in the rest. You see, some Asian women have stereotypes about American women, too, and many aren't very flattering.

It's possible the men you know about were buying into the Asian Wife stereotype, too. Perhaps it was true at one time, say after WWII. It isn't the case today.
