There was a godly widowed woman who attended church on a regular basis, read her Bible daily, and still lived in her own house.
One night, while she was asleep upstairs, she heard some noise coming
from downstairs.
Though in her nightgown, she grabbed a flashlight and cellphone and cautiously made her way downstairs.
Seeing a silhouette of a man moving across one of the windows in her living room, she called out,"Whose
there?"
At this, the startled intruder, who was holding a big bag he was filling
with stolen goods, swiftly slung it over his shoulder, and rushed to the nearest door to flee outside, banging
his ankles into articles of furniture
in the process.
Realizing that she was dealing with a thief, she nonetheless bravely took off
after him, flicking on her flashlight.
Racing outside, she managed to put
the flashlight beam on the fleeing thief, then some thirty feet away from her.
Immediately, she shouted out,
"STOP, THIEF!....ACTS 2:38!"
When the fleeing thief heard that,
he froze in his tracks; the flashlight
revealed a look of terror on his face.
A minute past, and another, the thief just stood there petrified.
Realizing that he was going nowhere,
she called the police on her cellphone....
The police came, arrested the man, put him in the back of their car, and briefly interviewed him.
One of the arresting officers came up to the godly widow and said, "Excuse me, Maam, do you know why the thief
didn't run away?"
She replied, "No! Why?"
The officer responded, "The thief
thought you were armed with an AXE and TWO .38's."
