When the bank is broken in Oregon, it won't matter where the taxes come from.
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to see people dying in the streets for lack of health care, as they do in India.
I suspect you believe kids should have every opportunity to grow up healthy, happy and productive.
I doubt you'd like to watch, say, a poor mother giving birth in the streets for lack of access to medical facilities.
...What's the problem? Or, do you want India, Thailand, Cambodia? I doubt that.
That isn't happening NOW, you doofus. Not anywhere in America, much less Oregon. Just like the streets weren't full of elderly dying for lack of medical care before Medicare was instituted.
This is the oldest chestnut in the leftist book. After making some outlandish collectivist proposal that would certainly leave a trail of wreckage through citizens' rights and the economy ("Let's stop all the waste of food and resources and kill all the millions of housepets and feed them to the poor children!") they respond to incredulous opposition with something along the lines of "Don't you WANT our children to be properly fed?"
The assumption is that if we don't use the crazy socialist solution to solve a problem, that the problem cannot be solved and we are all doomed. Mary Anne's little list of logical fallacies calls this one the False Dilemma.
We all want people to have good medical care. The assumption that this cannot happen unless we turn it over to the government is a lie. Also, considering most Leftists consider the government to be irredeemably corrupt, and firmly in the pockets of corporations, it is incomprehensible.
Arf (I thought he lives in California. What's Oregon to him?)
Hell, from a practical standpoint Oregon passing this immense pantload would be great, resulting in sucking off a vast load of California parasites off to the North. Heck, I hope someone provides free transportation. I'm just philosophically opposed to it.
I have to admit that folks who believe that everyone should pay for clean water to drink or die have a mindset which is not understandable to me. I truly have a blind spot when it comes to air, water and medical care.
My mindset is clear enough...it's not my fault you can't comprehend it.
Unless you are lucky enough to live by a clean spring, clean safe water has to be produced by someone. If you don't pay them for it, they are slaves. If you force someone else to pay them for it, then those people are slaves. This also applies to any other human need that must be produced by other humans.
And please point out to me the last person to die of thirst in America because he couldn't afford drinking water.
Water is a commodity just like food, shelter, and yes, medical care. It is the product of someone's labor and skill, and the sooner people get out of their socialist fantasies and realize this, the better.
