History

Wasn't sure if I wanted to stick my two cents into this one, but opinionated or not, Roosevelt's attempt to hijack the Supreme Court is a matter of history, although the liberal sources refer to the threatened judges as "pro-business," which I suppose justifies it to them. The terrified Court's later distortion of the Commerce Clause to allow the Federal Government nearly absolute power over all economic activity in the nation is also a matter of record.

The massive wealth redistribution system in our nation (which occupies about two-thirds of the Federal Budget counting the discretionary items) will eventually hit a wall. It has to. There is no way I can see to slow it down. We have created a society where it is not only permitted, but encouraged, to vote money out of someone else's pocket and into your own. And when fifty poor people and one rich guy vote, guess who wins.

And, while I possibly still have your attention - do you guys miss the Cold War so much that you have to keep flogging its corpse? Don't Saddam and Bin Laden satisfy your need for new effigies to burn? Even the Chinese, North Koreans and Cubans understand that communism is dead - they're having a lot of trouble transitioning out of it, but they are trying - yet you're still playing Joe McCarthy.

Check the calendar: the year is 2002, not 1952.

If you think socialism is dead, even in America, you must have missed about forty posts on this subject here. It is alive, well, and thriving in Washington, especially on university campuses, in the media, in Hollywood, and many other places.

And if the leaders in Cuba, North Korea and China have disavowed communism, they must have done it when I wasn't looking. They sure have an odd way of showing it. Didn't Castro just have a referendum touting Cuba as forever socialist? The closest they ever come to reform are pathetic "glasnost" attempts to plug the virtues and benefits of a free market system into a totalitarian nation, which works about as well as replacing a computer's main processor chip with a wooden carving of one.
