r...esources on the WW and of city fighting is the magazine: History of the Second World War (In 96 weekly parts)
They describe the city fighting and even the final hour by hour slow fall of the Reichstag.
To be fair - our forces now have night vision, body armor and gas masks. The choking smoke and darkness that slowed Russian and US forces in WWII would not be as big a factor today.
Baghdad at night will hopefully be owned by Special Forces.
The main fear is an endless parade of snipers - or worse suicide bombers - but I think a whole bunch of new toys can be employed to flush them out early.
It will still be nasty - but I think Saddam's troops will quickly realize the odds of survival are greatly increased by surrendering or bailing out of the conflict.
Ideally Saddam is killed in a Coup - but I put even less odds of that happening as a successful coup of Hitler in the last year of the war against Germany. Way too many lifelong bootlickers surround him.
