Actually, one of the first things a totalitarian regime does is makes it illegal for a citizen to own weapons. Another thing they do is try to make the citizens totally dependent on the central government for what they need to live. But that's another story.

Before you piss all over business and corporations, you might want to keep in mind that poverty and economic collapse have historically killed one hell of a lot more people than pollution ever did. And while I don't think corporations should be allowed to belchcrap into the air either, the solution to our problems does not lie with the destruction of capitalism, business, and the free market, along with the collection of all power into a central government.

Please note what sorts of governments have historically had the worst problems with their environments over the past century. Hint: it wasn't capitalist democracies.
