There are several ways of breaking a cycle of violence between nations. Some of them are highly effective, like total genocide (Carthage), but the trick is finding one that works for a civilized nation. Then the problem is finding a set of common goals. What are the goals of the nation of Israel
Let's try a scenario:
Israel declares that the West Bank is now a totally autonomous state. They pull all Jews out of the West Bank, wreck the settlements, pull back the army, and haul everyone onto the Israeli side of the border. Billions of dollars of reparations are paid to Arafat and his goons. The head of Ariel Sharon is removed, lovingly preserved, and offered to Arafat in a colorful box.
Now, what do you think the Palestinians will do?
Damn right. They'll find another excuse to keep the killing going. Any excuse. Maybe Jerusalem wasn't thrown into the deal. Maybe the borders aren't in the right place. Maybe their shorts are riding up.
You know I'm right on this.
Can anyone on this board give me one scenario (that does not involve the extinction of Israel) that will cause the radical Palestinians to stop killing Jews? ONE????? Particularly something the Israelis could do unilaterally?
You cannot peacefully break a cycle of violence when one side unconditionally demands the extinction of the other. The Palestinians need a new leader. Over the past decades, Israel has had many leaders, some hardline, some not. Arafat has been in charge of the Palestinians since 1969. Let's try changing that side of the equation once, and see what happens.
