there's really no such thing as airplane noise. However, I say jets are noisy and the Harrier is one of the worst. Now, you have a fly-by with an old WWII fighter and you hear the sweet music of cubic inches and propellor tips. Few things sound as sweet as a big old radial engine with the possible exception of twin water-cooled turbocharged Allisons in a P-38 on a high-speed fly-by. The word that pops to mind is Sexy. That has to be the sexiest sounding plane I've ever heard. Don't believe me? Go here, click on the P-38 menu item, Sounds, Fly-by and listen. I wish I could provide a direct link.
Speaking of P-38s, Glacier Girl flew last October! The link has videos complete with that incomparable P-38 sound.
