Secede? With what?

Still fighting the Battle of Appomattox?

I fail to see how supplying people with the opportunity to participate in a government to which they pledge allegiance (we're talking about citizens and applicants for citizenship here) in a way that maximizes their intelligent participation will provoke large-scale rebellion, but never mind. Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that Mexican separatists become something more threatening than the people promoting the return of the Kingdom of Hawai'i.

First, they would need a majority of the Mexicans who come here to be on their side. Dream on. If "Mexico for the Mexicans" were so attractive, more of them would stay home instead of making home here.

Then they would need an army capable of defeating the US military on its home soil.

Or they would need to wage a terror campaign. In this, they would be severely hampered by their own aims. They wouldn't want to harm the people who would be their supporters, i.e., the Chinanos. They wouldn't want to harm the infrastructure of the area that they wanted to take over, because the economic advantages (electricity and clean water spring to mind) are part of the attraction. So their targets would have to be Anglo civilians. Tell me what kind of response that will garner.

They wouldn't even have the kind of twisted justification the IRA used: 500 years of occupation, starvation and oppression.

I wouldn't give two cents for their chances.
