It depends on the immigrants

I speak from personal experience since my wife, my stepsons, my daughter-in-law, and a high percentage of my friends are all immigrants. Most of my immigrant friends are from Asia but there are some Europeans, Iranians, Latinos and an Aussie thrown in for good measure.

Some groups come to America and do everything possible to fit in. I have several Korean neighbors who are all business owners. They're the living embodiment of the American Dream and some of the hardest working people I know. They're damned good people, too. They create jobs, contribute to the community, and help one another succeed. The older ones have a hard time learning English, but then, it's a pretty difficult language to learn. The younger ones fit in very quickly.

There are others who come here and expect us to conform to their social and cultural mores. They not only want to stick to their native language, they demand we change to accommodate them. None of the Asian immigrants I know (and that would be in the hundreds) expect things like ballots printed in their native langauages. None expect government offices be able to service them in their native languages, either.

There are news stories coming out of Europe on a near weekly basis about immigrants from Moslem countries who're doing things like raping local women because they "were dressed improperly" or because they dared to actually go out on their own instead of being escorted by their male family members. Now, I don't just celebrate diversity, I live it. However, I sure as hell draw the line at crap like that. I suspect you do, too.
