Rebuttal

I disagree with both you and Larry (and others here, I know.) I hold a hard line on casual drug use.

I have worked with those who claim getting busted was the best thing that ever happened to them. Their parents were either oblivious and completely unaware of their drug problems or didn't care. Very few were just potheads, but were mixing and matching drugs and weed like cocktails.

The number of crimes committed while under the influence of drugs or controlled substances is legion. It may start with pot and quickly accelerate up the ladder.

Here in Arizona we had a celebrated case of teen suicide by drug overdose while being egged on by other losers on the internet. His mother was doing a crossword puzzle - completely oblivious as her son killed himself under her roof.

It's not the potency of the drug that is the problem it is the druggie mentality that needs escape from reality by literally poisoning and killing their brain cells which is the fundamental danger to society as a whole.

Getting high, drunk or stoned is dangerous to the drug user and those around him/her.

Look at all the icons of the druggie generation - all dead or braindead. Not a real happy ending for the "Tune in drop out" crowd.

The temperance unions were founded not due to dislike of alcohol - but due to the massive evidence of the wrecked and wasted lives the bottle left in its wake.

Reagan's dad was so drunk he was out in the cold on the porch - he never even made it through the front door and would have died if his son, at the age of twelve, hadn't dragged his unconscious body from the porch and into the house. At that moment he knew his future lay elsewhere.

Reefers may seem like they are harmless in themselves - but they are really like a suicide note and mute testimony to other psychological problems left for someone to find.

River Phoenix, John Belushi, Janis Joplin, Margeaux Hemingway, Dennis Wilson, Natalie Wood, Tim Hardin, Marilyn Monroe, Dianne Linkletter,Jerry Garcia....the list goes on and on and on and on and on............................................................................................................................................................

Perhaps the "Dell dude" will wake up and realize he has a serious problem. He's certainly not the only one who needs the wake up call.

Prisons are full of people who break laws - that's what prisons are for. If tax dollars need to be spent for more "drug" prisons and treatment facilities - I'm all for it.

The people need help. Laws aren't the only solution - but they are sure as heck better than NO laws.

My take on it.
