My take on that press conference is that Bush had pity on the poor old senile bat and didn't want her embarassing herself again in public.
I recently heard Helen Thomas as a question of Ari Fleischer, and he patiently responded to her...three times...and the old dingbat still didn't get it.
Has the poor woman never heard of the word "retirement"? She's been covering Washington politics since what, Hoover? Is she trying to outlast Strom Thurman or something?
