reflections on good and evil........

Our concepts of good and evil exist exclusively in our minds. The seeds of our recognition of this duality were borrowed from Zoroasterism and have been floating around in the collective consiousness since the Diaspora.

I'm not saying this duality doesn't exist, mind you; but it is a human value judgement that is based on subjective perspectives... victor/victim, predator/prey.

We have to recognize that Saddam Hussein probably thought of himself as a righteous warrior-king, a good man beloved by his people (except for those he kept in line by chucking them through shredders).

Adolph Hitler fantasized he was bringing about a Golden Age for Germany, and thus for all the world.

The Iron Man, Josef Stalin, envisioned himself creating a society without class divisions, royalty rule, inherited station and want among his people. No matter, to him, that this required the slaughter of all the middle class farmers in Russia.

Now, with his success against a crippled third-world army all but complete, I'm sure Preznit Duhbya is very pleased with himself.

Having found neither the vaunted weapons of mass destruction, nor Saddam and his sons, bin-Laden, Sheik Omar, or Elvis the vast portion of the world currently see our Preznit as being somewere between Saddam and Hitler for commanding the invasion of Iraq.

Time and History can be the only judges of our actions as a nation. And this will be written based on the outcomes of the nation building process in Iraq.

The book is going to be out for a long while on this one. Did we do good, or were we the agents of evil??
