Re: Cutting off your hand cures a hangnail, too!

That's a pretty blunt instrument you suggest, Justin.

the benefit outweighs the gainthere are sights like www.letssingit.com that If I try to view the simple lyrics page, it forewards me to a different page with frames, popups, pols and nav bars all around it, so much that the window to view the lyrics is too small to read, thus: no java, no forewarding, I can surf the directory structure!

Turning off scripting disables all the legitimate interactive feature of a Web site, too. Closely analogous to disconnecting your phone to avoid telemarketers.

everyoneis different, some people may well jsut have to contend with 90% of calls being telemarketers. in such a case I would disconect my phone as well. this is how I view it, java gets in the way more so than makes things pretty. and the mere luxury of a few pretty things does not outweight the annoyance that java can bring.

The only effective way to avoid the problem without throwing the baby out with the bathwater is to patronize only sites like www.HabitableZone.com that have the ethical cojones to refuse banner ads. Add that site to IE's list of trusted sites, turn on all the options, and I'll take you on a magic carpet ride!

not such a bad idea, but like nick says, it is easy to turn off the java options when venturing out to sights who pester you with java.

(snip) . . . Could be bad for Linux, with Microsoft understandably not porting IE to it; but then I remember that Nagivator 6 is really the open-source Mozilla browser.

I knew around netscape 4.o they released their source and mozilla used it to build off of, I did not know netscape ported the mozilla BACK to windows :-) lol.

So why haven't the open-source Linuxoids done the perfectly natural thing and bring up Mozilla for Linux?

what do you mean, I am typing this message out under mozilla on my linux machine?

in many ways I think it is superior to explorer. I like it a lot. It is a little processor intensive, but it is not trying to sell me anything, it is trying to make lfe difficult if I want to screen cookies, it does not force Java upon me either. . . . I like it, the one thing that creeps me out though is when they shrink their star logo with the red godzilla in it and it looks like a plain old red star. . . makes me feel like I am using some communist internet browser. Come to think of it I guees all these browsers are kinda comunist, and what the heck they had a great space program so why not a good web browser!
