Signal-to-noise

Signal-to-noise on the Internet is a big problem. There are people over on the MSNBC BBS that obviously suffer from severe mental illness (one can spot it almost immediately). It can be taken for granted that anything they write is either dead wrong or a hallucination. Oddly enough, useful information can be derived from their posts, i.e. if they say there is a "face" on Mars made by an extraterrestrial civilization, you can safely assume that this is NOT true. Also the screwballs on MSNBC have the additional quality of providing some entertainment by functioning as village idiots.

On the other side of the spectrum are some of the people who post in the "Habitable Zone", i.e. Nick Hoffman, Alex R. Blackwell, Mark Eby, etc. Their information has high value. Their opinions are usually thought provoking. They do make honest mistakes once in a while. However most of the time it's a safe bet in assuming what they say is true.

Grondine is a special case. He writes lucidly and sometimes his facts are actually correct. You can not assume that everything he writes is wrong. However almost always mixed with his facts are total fiction. He will not admit error. If you catch him making something up and point it out, he will deny it. He will continue to deny it even after it becomes clear to the whole world that he made it up. I don't know how to label this behavior. I have concluded there is no point in reading his posts because the information can not be trusted.
