Re: on logic and probability

EBY: "Now I agree with Rummel and Keith that there are other considerations and that small percentage of pathogens attack in a way that gets around this general rule. Keith has admitted however that these types of diseases do not have the types of lethality that Barry uses as examples to scare people about MSR. "

COWING: Now you are taking my statements out of context - and using them to make YOUR points - just like Barry does.

I never "admitted" anything.

My point (not sure which text you are referring to anymore) was made to suggest that disease states can occur in unexpected ways - the point being that the difference between sub-lethality - and lethality can be thin. Disease can be cuase by a variety of things- by being eaten form within, by proucing toxins that cause disease, or by encountering other organisms that have become diseased.

Often times the difference between non-infectious and infectious states can be a few DNA base pairs in either host or pathogen. Indeed, one single base pair difference in human hemoglobin gene causes sickle cell anemia - this very same alteration also confers substantial resistance to the organism that causes Malaria. ONE SINGLE BASE PAIR. The same is ture for strains of flu and other viral maladies.

Talk to the experts before you go much further with all of this. Seriously.
