commercial pure research?
We're seeing lots of potential for commercial space ventures, but has there been any discussion of commercially-capitalized pure research companies? Specifically, I'm thinking about physics research, but I suppose that one shouldn't restrict the field unneccesarily.
For example, would it be commercially viable to fund a particle collider (for sake of discussion) with the intention of selling your research results? Is there anyone out there doing anything like this?
