Space/Science » in reply to Re: Orlando Sentinal Poll: Majority think manned Mars mission a waste of money

Good questions

Hello Mark -

1) Is this poll available online?

No - the Sentinel just published the results, so percentage breakdown and questions are unknown

>Or are we supposed to rely on your sterling record of veracity?

Since I'll be continuing to relay news which some will continue to find both hard to accept or to understaned, I can expect more of this.

>It is most interesting that many other polls available online do not match your claim.

Online polls will have another bias as to population sampled. The Sentinal claims that it tried to match to US population

2) Are you using the exact phrasing of the poll or paraphrasing?

Neither - I don't know what the poll's exact question was

3) Was an estimated cost given?

I don't know - my guess, and let me emphasize that it's merely a guess, is that it was not. It wouldn't have mattered anyway - what people base their response on is their own estimate (perception) of the cost.

4) If no cost was given, don't you think it is likely most people polled base their opinion on the 400+ billion price tag from Bush 1 era which was the last widely publicized figure issued by NASA?

I think people based their responses on both their percieved cost as well as their perception of Mars.

> Even I thought that price was too high.

I agree with you there.

> Details, details, details. It's quite amazing how a few ommissions can really scew interpretations.

Yes indeed, it is.

>Regards, Mark
