Washington Post article here.
Money that paid for government services, government projects, a lot of welfare, and if Bowser's listening, a lot of people's medical care.
How much did you contribute to that last year? Or anyone else here, including me? How many national parks did we keep open?
Then there was almost $3 million to charity, even if you don't count the traditional 10 percent Mormons give to their church. What's your charitable giving tally for the past two years?
Romney's income is capital gains, taxed at 15 percent for long-term. If that pisses you off, do what you can to get that raised. Have Democrats run next fall on doubling the capital gains rate. Why not, right?
Obsessing on tax "rates" instead of taxes paid is brainless.
From the article:
Romney’s overall tax rate is in line with that of the average American taxpayer. However, it has drawn fire because the federal tax system is designed to be progressive — the more you earn, the more you are supposed to pay.
Hello, bubbleheads? The people who earn more DO pay one hell of a lot more than the people who earn less. In fact, the highest quintile in this country is the only one that pays considerably more in total share of taxes than their total share of income. Even counting payroll taxes. Over half of all those taxes comes from the top 10 percent. And a hell of a lot of people - almost half - are paying almost nothing except payroll taxes for their own elderly care.
And this is still not "fair" enough or "progressive" enough for the Left. The "rich" should be paying everything for everybody.
Next year the Bush tax rates expire. Tax increases across the board, including capital gains. Democrats would love to kick that can down the road, but it has to be addressed, if only to preserve the tax cuts for the middle class. Last time Obama rolled over on the whole thing and kept all the tax cuts. We'll see what happens this time.
