This is simlar to the Mars Society/ Space Frontier Foundation row, with certain interesting variants.
First off, you have to remember that all of the space utopianists are not really functioning all that well mentally. These include Tumlinson, Cowing, Eby etc., and most definitely this character.
Unlike the others, whose particular neurosis do serve some social function and thus remain without scrutiny, this fellow's fixations are obvious. They may be clearly seen in this poor chap's complete mistatement of Cowing's reportage biases and connections, as well as by his particular fixation on Cowing.
On the up side, I suppose Keith understands a little more about how Goldin felt, and about how he was viewed at NASA, and how they felt about his use of "NASA" in his site name "NASAWatch".
(Seems to me it might be lucrative to cybersquat on any government agency name + Watch).
Now as to the value of Cowing's latest pr stunt. The PR value is great, but the scientific value is nil.
The new MARIE findings place clear limits on the use of inflatable stuctures, as radiation severs the long chain hydrocabons used in synthetics.
The problems of closed loop life support systems were investigated vigorously in the former Soviet Union at a dollar cost of some 10's of millions, and several closed loop designs underwent multiple long term testing.

Pretty much to be expected
