Wouldn't it be simpler, and cheaper to widen its wing span and launch it on an expendable launcher? Then it could glide in like the shuttle without having to worry about if the shoot's going to open. It would be a shame to make in all the way back to Earth after a station evacuation just to go SPLAT!
