I was briefly offered up to do such a debate with Bob Zubrin earlier this year; wiser heads prevailed and that debate was cancelled; I'm sure Spudis will make a much better sparring partner (he's author of "The Once and Future Moon" and one of the driving forces involved in the NExT proposals you've been hearing about recently from JSC). From talking with him and others, Zubrin doesn't seem to be as much against a lunar return as some would suppose; he just really really wants to see the Mars mission done, but in the long run I think everybody's pretty much agreed that Moon, Mars, and asteroids will all need human visits and establishment of long-term "colonies" of one sort or another.
I do wish space people could find themselves agreeing a bit more and working together, rather than fighting so much. It shouldn't be a zero-sum game here!
