Possible problems a Europa probe might encounter

I’ve been thinking about the design of a Europa probe. I have seen one that melts it way down to the ocean below. Basically it has a heated tip and it lets the moon’s gravity pull it down.

The best place to send a probe to the ocean is obviously where the ice is the thinnest

I see two problems with this design.

1. It will take a lot of power for a probe to melt its way down to ocean. The probes controllers would need to make sure they land near a recent crack where the ice is thin.
2. What if the probe encounters an obstacle on its way down- like a meteorite. This problem could also be solved like the first.

But what if there are no thin spots in the ice?

I don’t know how to solve the power problem, but the second problem could be solved if the probe is given some mobility. It would just need to be able to back up from the obstacle, turn, and then move horizontally. Maybe of the probe was a cylinder that was surrounded by a screw like groves, which could rotate. The probe could 'screw' through the ice (sorry if that sounds rude).
