To someone like me, skyscrapers are beautiful. Great works of engineering like the Hoover Dam are beautiful. The forest where Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater is located is more beautiful because this house is there. The order and symmetry imposed on the natural world by human beings is, in most cases, a good thing.
To the radical environmentalist, anything that is of humanity is garbage, and fouls the "natural" world. Where once the environmental movement sought simply to clean up the works of humanity to prevent environmental destruction, the new radical environmentalist sees change, ANY change, made to the natural world by human works to be evil, regardless of whether or not perceptible harm occurs. Obviously, since altering the natural world is how the human species survives, we can see where this is going.
I would not say Bowser normally falls into the latter category, despite him pulling our chains on lunar "garbage." I think the lunar message idea is great.
We should only be so fortunate as to have such a large presence in space that we have to worry about visibly marring the surface of the Moon.
