You gave us a preview of this paper back in August. I worked over the image and posted the results here on the Zone. I think you were just leaving town for a conference, and so you might not have seen it.
The contrast in my version is stretched to a lesser degree than the image you used, and that seems to have a material effect on what the image seems to show. Heavy contrast enhancement produces artificially sharp boundaries, and without them I see less evidence of flow (more narrative in the referenced post). Please take a look.
