No need, just fact.

I'm simply going on the facts as they exist. You seem to have no problem thinking that Neaderthals were incapable of higher civilization because they seemed to remain static in their cultural development for a long period of time, I'm simply following the same train of thought. It has been shown that after Neaderthals met modern Humans, their tool making (as well as jewelry and knickknack making) skills began to blossom and expand dramatically. Some people say that this was nothing more than imitation on the part of Neanderthals. Maybe it was, and maybe not.

As Phil pointed out, 10exp4 may not be the same as 10exp5, but it's still a hell of a long time not to make any technological progress, especially when there has been at least some outside contact during that time period.
