Space/Science » in reply to An even MORE interesting (if not disturbing) statistic

Re: statistics

I have heard similar statistics from socialist wannabes since I was in college. Often, the numbers are ludicrous, along the lines of the top five percent having 99 percent of the wealth.

In all the years I've seen this kind of thing, no one has ever shown me hard numbers on this. Who "owns" the wealth? How does one define ownership? What parameters are used? No one has ever shown me ANYTHING justifying these numbers. If anyone has some background on this, let me know.

And Gates Sr., who did jack shit to earn the money he now controls in Gates' foundations, should sit down and shut up. Obviously, as Bill Gates' father, he stands to live in luxury the rest of his natural life. What chance that his son will die before he does and make an estate tax an issue at all? Nobody points this out.

And, of course, the foundations that Gates Sr. is overseeing would certainly benefit if there were an estate tax, as much of the Gates wealth would probably find its way there to avoid those taxes. This doesn't seem to be pointed out much either.

And what is preventing Bill Gates from giving all his wealth to the government any time he wants?

Now, if Bill Gates had kids, maybe they should be the ones interviewed on their opinions on the estate tax.

As for the rest of the "equality first" people in this article, I can understand how, like any other looter, they strongly feel that all that money would certainly be better off in their own hot little hands instead of left in the hands of those who earned it.
