The point I was making is not that the statistics are alarming or not. It is that none of the statistics of this kind have ever been substantiated. I have no idea what the real numbers are, assuming some leftist didn't just pull them out of a hat, and many parameters would depend on interpretation of "control" of the wealth.
For example, it could be said that the bank technically "owns" my home, but it certainly doesn't "control" it in any meaningful sense. As long as I make the payments, they are out of the picture. Depending on how one wanted the results to come out, that situation could be skewed either way.
Money has equalled political access since before money was invented and you had to buy your way to the chief with a herd of cows.
The key to controlling this is not controlling wealth per se, but controlling the amount of power a government has over its people and the economy.
If we did not have a mixed economy, and the government had no more to say about economics than it had to say about religion, there would be almost no reason any more for corporations and others to bribe...er...contribute to politicians.
Needless to say, there is little enthusiasm for this idea from either politicians or the "connected" wealthy.
