We need Volkswagens.
We need inherently robust, highly generic and easily modified vehicles.
We need it to be relatively cheap to build and fly, safe to re-enter under a wide range of condiitons, not so vulnerable to single point failures.
A vehicle that in one iteration can go up to orbit, in another make emergency landings from orbit, and in still another go to luna or deep orbital space.
One that could attach to a cargo pod or lab module or a lunar orbital/lander package.
IOW, a super Soyuz.
