There are plenty of reasons to go to the Moon. Using it as a staging ground for Mars is not one of them. The technical reasons why that is a false premise have been gone over ad nauseum. And yes those that understand the significance of the rocket equation and experience with cost benefit analysis do have more insight than those who look solely at distance and travel time.
