The msnbs URL I cited referenced recent murders in Nigeria.

As to fundamentalists, in the 1940s Heinlein in "Revolt in 2100" wrote perceptively of a 21st century America that had abandoned space travel, and elected a fundamentalist Christian "prophet" who then abolished subsequent elections and established religious rule. That novel always helped keep me on guard against America's penchant for powerful preacher types demonizing one group or another.
