<It's in Universities you have the highest chance finding people who think with their heads rather than with their guts.
I disagree, it is in the universities where you find people who are really good at doing what they are told. While this is a good skill, one I wish I could bring myself to do sometimes, it hardly has anything to do with cognitive ability.
I think back often to highschool and the honors society. It was based strictly on GPA, and those people in the honors society where often lauded as the 'most intelligent' in highschool. What a joke.
I remember this one girl in the honors society who was so dense I had to throw a pen across the room to get into her head that "If you drop something from a car while the car is moving, the object will continue on its path". She somehow got in to UVA, which was ranked 2nd best public university in the nation at the time. I remember the class president crying on the desk behind me in chemistry saying 'god, justin please help me, I don't what what the hell I'm doing', and a year later the same guy boasting in his graduation speech how the honors society was the mark of their superior intelligence. I remember in nearly every group exercise where these shinning academic role models demonstrated little creative problem solving ability, and quickly/sheepishly fell behind any plan of action I had, (and they came out on the winning group because of this). The list actually goes on from there but gets more intricate. I should have made my point with just this. This was basically the "people who go to good universities" list. And maybe theres nothing wrong with this, the workforce for the future needs people really good at doing what they are told.
By taking easy courses, or by just following instructions you get into a good college. And while there were some actually bright people in the honors society -> go to universities. The majority of them were not very origional in thought, and they weren't necessarily bright. There was a core in the honors society that were bright, but were far too elitist to and full of themselves to work well with others.
